Board certification is as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) from American Nurses' Credentialing Center (ANCC) or the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Certification Program (AANPCP).  They work in primary care settings with practice directed at health promotion and disease prevention from childhood and throughout the aging process.  Family NPs are trained to diagnose and develop treatment plans for acute and chronic diseases and are also capable of providing specialty care such as community-based infectious disease (HIV, hepatitis) or diabetes management. FNPs can find jobs in private practice offices, clinics, ambulatory care centers, homes, or student health centers.
