Board certification is as a Gerontology Nurse Practitioner (GNP) by the American Nurses’ Credentialing Center (ANCC) or American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Certification Program (AANPCP).  They provide primary care services for older adults to assess and manage chronic conditions and improve quality of life generally in community-based locations or long-term care facilities.  With the increase in the aging population, this position is becoming more available in the inpatient hospital setting as well.
