National board certification is as a Women's Health Care Nurse Practitioner (WHNP) by the National Certification Corporation (NCC).  They have the unique role of advancing the well-being of women, focusing on the primary health care needs of women from adolescence through the advanced years, with a concentration on promoting and maintaining wellness.  These practitioners address a wide range of women’s health issues that include normal pregnancy, prenatal/perinatal management, fetal evaluation and assessment, clinical management of family planning, well-woman health care, menopause education and management, and primary care associated within women’s health.  This specialization is likely to evolve toward gender-related health care, to include male health and wellness care, based on the proposed APRN model.
